eloping in oahu

a simple step-by-step guide

Eloping in Oahu is simpler than most couples expect; however, having guidance can make the experience feel more easeful and intentional.

Whether you're planning from across the ocean or already local, here's a step-by-step guide to help you create a meaningful, stress-free elopement.

Plan your experience

Start with the foundation of your day: when and where.

Think about:

  • The kind of environment you're drawn to (beaches, cliffs, mountains, jungle)
  • Whether you prefer sunrise or sunset
  • The overall feeling you want (quiet, adventurous, romantic)

If you're still deciding, you can explore guides on when and where to elope on Oahu to help you narrow it down.

Many beaches and outdoor locations on Oahu require permits for ceremonies.

You can learn more about permits through the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources here.

Permits can depend on:

  • Location
  • Group size
  • Whether you're bringing a set up such as arches, chairs, etc.

This is something I guide all my couples through so you don't have to navigate it on your own.

After your ceremony,  you can celebrate however it feels aligned for you.

  • A picnic at the beach
  • Dinner at a restaurant with your fave food
  • Exploring the island together
  • Watching the sunset or sunrise

Secure any required permits

Celebrate your way

To legally marry in Hawaii, you'll need to apply for a marriage license through the state.

You can start your application here:

Once you arrive on island, you'll schedule a quick in-person appointment with a licensed agent and bring a valid ID.

After that, you're ready for your ceremony!

This is where your elopement becomes yours.

Think about what matters the most to you:

  • Writing and sharing your vows
  • Incorporating meaningful traditions
  • Creating a space where you can slow down and be present with each other

If you need help building a timeline that feels natural and unhurried, I walk my couples through this step-by-step so your day flows with as much ease as possible.

Step 03

Hire your Officiant + Photographer

Your officiant makes your marriage official; but your photographer helps shape the experience. (Lucky for my couples, I'm both!)

From building your timeline to guiding you through the day, your photographer often becomes your main support system.

If you're looking for someone who can document your big day while also helping you stay grounded, present, and fully connected, you can learn more about working with me here:
